In this course, we will sculpt the figure with drapery from photos and life, while learning sculpting techniques informed by antique, Renaissance, and 19th century practices. Primarily focusing on the large masses of the the body, and how they move in concert together to form a clear gesture. This fosters an understanding of structural anatomy relationships in a three dimensional way, while encouraging students to reference relationships between fixed anatomical points to construct sound figures. We will be working with stoneware clay, sculpting a seated or reclined figure, and preparing our pieces to be fired at the end of class, so students can fire their work in a kiln if they choose. The class will include sculpting demonstration, constructive critiques, and lecture.

No experience is necessary, teaching will be tailored to individuals. The class will be held via Zoom, and participants will need a smartphone, tablet, or computer with camera to participate. *Materials are not included but instructor will send list of recommended supplies once registration is confirmed by participants.
